SHEEP

A larger show of new season lambs forward today with 80 penned, trade had just eased a bit on the week but still good to sell with buyers favouring outdoor lambs. Top price of the day went to J B potter & Sons at £160 with another pen of theirs close behind at £150 per head, a pen of 3 from F Marshall & Son also making the same price. SQQ and all in average at 306p/kg with tops at 324p/kg.

A lot less hoggs forward today with nearly all vendors cleared out. Top gross price went to W & M Birkley grossing £158 per head. Top p/kg was 336p/kg for two nice 45kg Beltex types from Laura Wilkinson. SQQ 283p/kg and all in average of 260p/kg.

131 ewes forward, not just as much meat on show, only well meated sorts best to sell, leaner types not just as good as last week but reasonable to say we were a buyer less. Top ewes sold to £190 for a pen of Texel X well finished types and averaged £95 with some small lean types pulling the average down. We are holding another red market next week, please advise James or Stephen on entries so we can inform buyers, it pays you to have them there.
