There are two rare breed sales held each year both of which are run in conjunction with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust and with the help of York Centre Support Group.

The main Autumn show and sale in early October is one of the largest and longest running sales in the country, the Spring sale takes place in April. 

Both sales include a wide range of rare and minority breeds of cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs.

DEFRA – AVIAN INFLUENZA

POULTRY SALES

It is noted that DEFRA have now lifted the ban on poultry gatherings in England but excluding any disease control zones.  Water-fowl are also excluded.

Poultry gatherings are subject to an APHA licence setting out various terms and conditions, and including a requirement for a veterinary surgeon to be present to inspect all birds entering the gathering.

If avian flu is detected that would mean an immediate restriction order is placed on the whole of our site preventing sales of any species taking place including cattle, sheep and pigs.  A full C&D would then have to be completed and application made for the restriction to be lifted.

As such the costs and risks of holding a gathering are very high and we will therefore not be holding any poultry sales whilst such conditions are in place.
