York Auction Centre had 488 head of stock forward including 233 Cattle, 141 Sheep and 114 Pigs at their weekly sale of Prime stock.

SHEEP

71 hoggs & 15 shearlings in the market today with a large proportion of rare breeds penned reflecting in the overall average very much. Well-bred and well fed hoggs remained good to sell though with tops of £178/ head for some good beltex x from Grange farm and top pp/kg reached 431/kg from the same home for a pen of nice 39kg hoggs. 32-39kg hoggs sold to 431/kg to Av 381/kg, 39-45.5kg hoggs sold to 415/kg to Av 303.29p/kg

And 45.6-52kgs hoggs sold to 332/kg to Av 297.  Demand still there for commercial types but rare breeds and hoggs with teeth up harder to place. 

A decent entry of New season lambs in sold very well to tops of 466/kg from J B Potter, the potter family also took the top gross price at £205/ head for some super little texels and Charolais x from NT King sold to £175. All in NSL averaged a very good 457ppkg. More required in a fortnight! 

In the cull section 42 ewes sold to £130 from Grange farm for cont x, mules sold to £115/ head, a pen of Kerry’s from J E & H J Gilbertson sold to £91 a head.
