SHEEP

A much-improved number of lambs in the market today, and good to see newer vendors and older vendors return! Trade was back a little on the week in line with other marts to average just shy of 308/kg, but the best lambs were still regularly 320/kg upwards, with two vendors K & A & EE Avis and Riseborough farming topping at 351ppkg for super shaped 41kgs and 47kgs texel and beltex sorts selling to Knavesmire butchers and Harry Bromwich family butchers. Erica Avis once again topped the gross price at £165 for a super beltex x selling to Knavesmire butchers. Heavy zwartble x texel lambs from David Lambert weren’t far behind selling to £162/ head to CK Retail. 

In the cull section ewes of all grades were good to sell, selling to tops of £160 for texel crosses, mules sold to £120/ head and a pen of swaledales sold to £58/ head. Many more sheep can be sold every week!  The first store and breeding sheep sale will be held on Thursday the 29th at 1pm, entries now being taken, call James on 07984400902!
