FATSTOCK MARKET – MONDAY 16^th DECEMBER- RED MARKET

 

York Auction Centre had 431 head of stock forward including 156 Cattle, 127 Sheep and 148 Pigs at their weekly sale of Prime stock.

A super trade to finish the year, a big thank you to all our vendors and purchasers for their support during the year and we look forward to seeing you all on the 6^{th of} January 2025.

2024 has been a very successful year for both Mrs R H Mason, Wold Newton and P & I Beal, Settrington who have topped the bull market the most number of times during the year. L Dale & Son, Skirpenbeck have also had an excellent year topping the clean market the most number of times.

SHEEP

The last prime sheep market of the year saw 113 lambs forward and trade remained as firm as ever, with a super beltex x from R A Dobson topping the pp/kg at a superb 382/kg, or £172, and Sam Beachell topped the gross price over all with a pen of 50kg Tex x grossing £178/ head or 356ppkg!! The SQQ sat at just shy of 310ppkg, but the overall average saw a decent lift on the week by 10p! Light lambs sold to tops of £172, to average £133.64, mediums topped at £178 to average £147.86, and heavies sold to £168 to average £160.29. 

Just a handful of ewes sold to £142/ head for a pen of nice Charolais x from R A Dobson to average £116.43.

PIGS

A Top price of 360p/kg £406 per head) was achieved by Mark Horsley of Skirpenbeck at York Auction Centre today for his supreme champion pen of bacon pigs.

Judged worthy winners of the 2024 Christmas Pig Show by Tim Garside, they were purchased by Manifold Valley Meats of Leek.

Mark Horsley also showed the Reserve Champion pen which sold for 270p/kg to Geoff Haslehurst for his shop in Barnsley.

Trade was strong throughout the sale particularly for well fleshed gilt pigs for the Christmas trade.
