York Auction Centre had 402 head of stock forward including 157 Cattle, 148 Sheep and 97 Pigs at their weekly sale of Prime stock.
CATTLE
46 Continental Young Bulls sold to 382p/kg from Paddock Farm and to £2860.08 from F & R M Pickering; to average 336.30p/kg.
9 Native Breed Young Bulls sold to 347p/kg from G Haslehurst & Son and to £2855.16 also from G Haslehurst & Son; to average 322.83p/kg.
25 Black and White Young Bulls sold to 331p/kg from Banklink LTD and to £2023.83 from G J Taylor; to average 288.02p/kg.
15 Continental X Steers sold to 390p/kg from Wagstaff Bros and £2861.18 from J & J Rycroft: to average 389.50p/kg.
1 Non continental Steers sold to 320p/kg from H W Cowling & Son and to £2121.48 also from H W Cowling & Son: to average 319.50p/kg.
47 Continental X Heifers sold to 429p/kg from H Crossley & Sons and to £2780.52 from Wagstaff Bros: to average 384.20p/kg.
7 Non continental Heifers sold to 394p/kg from R Mccaie and to £2260.80 also from R Mccaie: to average 334.93p/kg.
6 OTM sold to 345p/kg from T H Kilby & Son and to £2487.29 from T H Kilby & Son; to average 264.42p/kg.
A smaller show of cattle today but trade lifted significantly across all sections, with bulls up 12ppkg, steers also up by 12ppkg and heifers up a tremendous 22.5ppkg to average 378ppkg- a staggering 20% of all clean cattle today sold to 400-429ppkg!
Not many 1st quality suckler bred bulls in today, but trade was topped by Ryton beef for a super little red lim x selling to 371ppkg to CC Superstore, and F& R M Pickering topped the gross price at £2860 for a tremendous 816kg Charolais. 9 native bulls topped at 347ppkg or £2855 from G Haslehurst, to average 322.83ppkg and black and whites looked tremendously well sold topping at 331ppkg from banklink Ltd, the top grossing black and white was presented by G J Taylor realising £2023.83, all black and whites to average 288.02ppkg! All bulls to average 319.03ppkg across the board.
Clean cattle jumped in trade once again with heifers topping at 429ppkg for a solid Limx from H Crossley, with 3 more heifers from their consignment selling from 410-425ppkg! The clean section was topped overall by J & J Rycroft with a super lim x steer realising £2861.18. All well fed types of cattle were very much in demand and many more could have been sold!
Otms also looked dearer on the week with 2 well fed young cows presented by T H Kilby & son selling to 345ppkg and 325ppkg grossing £2487 and £2401 respectively, older cows sold to £1863 from W R Ireland and dairy cows sold to £1676 from A & A Wake.

92 hoggs saw a lift of nearly 30ppkg! Selling to tops of 395ppkg for a pair of nice beltex x from R A Dobson, to average 332 SQQ and 331 overall, the top grossing hoggs were presented by KG Clarke totalling £179 for a well fed tex x. Heavier hoggs still favoured over lighter sorts, but all sold away well and vendors all left the mart happy. A better number of ewes sold to tops of £214/ head for a pen of smart texels from Green Farm and another pen of smart ewes from H & B Beevers sold to £210/ head, Leaving the vendors amazed.
