York Auction Centre had 533 head of stock forward including 203 Cattle, 209 Sheep and 121 Pigs at their weekly sale of Prime stock.

CATTLE

54 Continental Young Bulls sold to 463p/kg from P R Walker & Son and to £3555.44 from G H West & Sons; to average 408.52p/kg.

21 Native Breed Young Bulls sold to 430p/kg A V Etherington & Sons and to £3029.26 from R H Clarkson & Sons; to average 390.50p/kg.

29 Black and White Young Bulls sold to 410p/kg from A E Guymer & Sons and to £3226.86 from A E Guymer & Sons; to average 371.95p/kg.

21 Continental X Steers sold to 478p/kg from F W & J M Douglas LTD and £3464.63 from JA MA & AD Raines: to average 440.21p/kg.

9 Native breed Steers sold to 409p/kg from G W & M Singleton and to £2801.72 from G W & M Singleton & Sons: to average 400.94p/kg.

60 Continental X Heifers sold to 509p/kg from Wilton Lodge Farms and to £3397.47 from G & E Simpson: to average 429.42p/kg.

3 Native breed Heifers sold to 407p/kg from Paddock Farm and to £2808.30 from R A Walker: to average 394.50p/kg.

3 OTM sold to 312p/kg from D Mitchell and to £2369.25 from F Frankish & Son; to average 302.83p/kg.

A better number of bulls forward today with 105 head penned, but many more could have been sold with two extra buyers’ ringside! P R Walker of Lund topped the trade at 463ppkg for a smart pure Limousin bull selling to Woolley Bros, and G H West topped the gross price at £3555 for a 784kg Lim also selling to Woolley Bros, 9 more bulls sold above £3000, and 44 bulls sold upwards of 400ppkg!

Native bulls topped at 410ppkg with others regularly from 380 and better, and black and whites looked very well sold once again with tops of 381ppkg from F E Brown & son, to average 336.28 who would have thought a £2000 black and white bull would become common place!

In the clean section, 95 head sold to new heights of 509ppkg for a superb black Lim heifer from Wilton Lodge weighing 600kg, the top grossing heifer was presented by G & E Simpson totalling £3397, for a superb pure Limousin and steers sold to £3464 for a well finished Lim x from J A & M A Raines of Ryton. 81% of all clean cattle forward sold from 400ppkg upwards with all clean across the board averaging a super 428ppkg! Native cattle sold regularly around the 400ppkg mark, topping at 408ppkg from G W & M Singleton, all grades of cattle looking very well sold!

SHEEP

172 hoggs met a bit of a two-tiered trade with the best sorts looking dearer on the week topping at 407ppkg for a nice pen of beltex x from R A Dobson, but a run of lighter types short of finish were harder to place and just brought the overall average down. The top grossing hoggs were presented by G H West selling to £186/ head to W Fletcher & son butchers and Ian Parvin wasn’t far behind at £184/ head selling to Harry Bromwich family butchers, the SQQ sat at 315ppkg and overall averaged 310ppkg. Culls sold to £170/ head from J Brown and mules sold to £124, all culls to average £136/ head.
