105 cull sheep sold to £115 to average £85.75.

A light show of lambs forward today with farmers once again taking advantage of the good weather or lambs not being quite ready. Some nicely finished lambs found a good trade selling to tops of £148 jointly between G D Stephenson and E S Thorpe. Better lambs were consistently around the 270ppkg mark with top ppkg of the day reaching 295 from Riseborough farming. Weight and flesh sought after with under finished lambs harder to place and would look better sold in our Thursday sale. Please remember when selecting lambs, weight is only a guide, flesh sells!

In the cull section a good number of ewes sold to £115 a head for some good beltex x from H & B Beevers with similar small framed but well fleshed texel crosses regularly over £100. Horned type sold to £42.

The strongest pig trade ever seen at York seems to be the result of a bit more seasonal demand and continued tight supply of free market pigs.

Trade topped at 253p/kg for some smart 100kg gilts from Mark Horsley and with Richard Ellis averaging £321 per head for a trailer load of stronger gilts.
