FORWARD

York Auction Centre had 151 head of stock through the market including 101 store cattle, 11 calves and 39 breeding cattle.

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £315 for a British Blue Steer Calf from Oxton Farm.

Breeding cattle sold to £1900 for a Stabiliser Cow with a Stabiliser Heifer calf at foot from Maxwell Bros and a Stabiliser Cow with a Stabiliser Heifer calf at foot from Peter Rhodes Feed Services.

Heifers sold to £1440 for a British Blue from Brian Basham.

Steers sold to £1450 for a Limousin X from J B Catton & Son and a British Blue from Brian Basham.

Bulls sold to £1310 for a Limousin X from J B Kilner.

Calves

Over 100 stores, 20+ cow & calf outfits and breeding cattle and 11 fresh calves in the market today with both pens and the ringside full! 

Only a few fresh calves in today but trade was absolutely electric for all that were forward! Trade topped at £315 for a BRB x steer calf from Oxton Farms, bulls topped at £220 for a sweet little calf from M I C Slater and a run of Dairy Shorthorn calves also from Oxton Farms sold tremendously well to buyers old and new, regularly to £120 and to highs of £128.

Next up were the breeding cattle which sold to highs of £1900 for a Stabiliser cow with heifer calf at foot from Maxwell Bros, who sold another ten outfits with us as today part of their herd dispersal. Some larger framed Stabiliser cows from Peter Rhodes Feed Services also sold to £1900 and regularly over £1700, John Pendlebury made the trip from Atherton again selling two lovely Angus cows to £1400 and a consignment of in calf cows from T E & R Dent sold to £1580. All outfits were keenly sought after, and we already have some super BRB x cows & calves, Pedigree Limousin cow & calf outfits and a Pedigree Limousin bull entered for next week! 

Store cattle looked a fantastic trade once again with Brian Basham of Mapleton taking the top spot with heifers with his usual strong Dairy x Blues, selling to tops of £1440 and Andrew Catton shared the top steer price with the Basham family at £1450, with 4 super Limousin x steers all hitting the same price selling to local mart supporter Andrew Johnson. 

Cattle just a shade smaller remained good to sell for shapely sorts with consignments from AP & RA Dunn selling to £1380/head and cattle from WB & A Kilby & Son and A W Turner sold from £1330-£1350 or tops of 321pp/kg to local buyers. 

Young feeding bulls were a flying trade and sold to tops of £1310 for “Ashtonfield Urabiglad” from J B Kilner for a run of well-fed Pedigree Limousins, other smart sorts regularly £1200-£1300 with a Limousin x bull looking particularly well sold at £1220 from I & P Kilner and a smart Blonde bull from N T & J H Barrett completed the pen full nicely for buyer Les England selling to £1210. Dairy x feeding bulls sold to £775 a head for a super packet of blues from J R Richardson to W Kay.
