FORWARD

York Auction Centre had 125 head of stock through the market including 76 store cattle, 25 calves and 24 breeding cattle.

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £635 for a Limousin X Heifer Calf from Ted Rooke.

Breeding cattle sold to £2280 for a British Blue Bull from R E Cornforth.

Heifers sold to £1300 for a Limousin X from J B Catton & Son.

Steers sold to £1525 for a Aberdeen Angus from Brian Basham.

Calves

A smaller show today than previous weeks but trade was as hot as ever! In the calf ring local vendor D V Lee sold nearly weaned bull calves to £385 for a Limousin x and AAX bulls to £330, heifers from the same home sold to £300. Stirks looked a sharp trade with an Lim x heifer topping the trade at £635 from Ted Rooke, a run of well-fed bull stirks just a bit smaller from Richard Findlay of Westerdale sold to £575/ head to mart supporter Paul Nesom and a super little run of AAX bulls from the same home sold to £565/ head.

In the big ring, another good show of breeding cattle including the part herd dispersal from Robin Cornforth sold to £1880 for a BRB X first Calver with her March born bull calf at foot, another 3 outfits from the same home broke the £1800 barrier! In calf cows sold to £1180, and a pedigree British blue bull also from Robin sold to £2280.

More cow & calf outfits entered for next week! 

76 store cattle once again looked very well sold with some smaller cattle even looking dearer on the week! Brian Basham of Mappleton topped the steers with a heavy AAX selling to £1525, with other heavy cattle from the Basham family selling to £1475 and some good suckler bred Simmentals from the Foulston family to £1470.

Heifers topped at £1300 from Andrew Catton for a super Limousin x and heavy suckler bred heifers from J Foulston & son sold to £1290.

Summering cattle looked very well sold with J R Hawking selling a trio of superb beef shorthorn steers to £1215/ head and consignments from J Paxton & J F lambert regularly sold from 1000-£1165.
