FORWARD

York Auction Centre had 94 head of stock through the market including 70 store cattle, 20 calves and 4 breeding cattle.

 

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £600 for a British Blue Bull Calf from I & A Broadhead.

Breeding cattle sold to £1310 for Aberdeen Angus cow with a Aberdeen Angus Heifer calf from Melrose Farm.

Heifers sold to £1490 for a Simantel X from J Foulston & Sons.

Steers sold to £1410 for a Limousin X from East Huntow Farm LTD.

Bulls sold to £935 for a British Friesian from N P Turnbull.

 

Calves

Another good entry forward for the time of year and all grades of cattle found a very good trade to a packed ringside of buyers. 

20 calves & stirks started the day all from regular famers and rearers, with I&A Broadhead topping the bull stirks at £600 for a super BRB X bull and Richard Findlay topped the heifer stirks with a super packet of BRB X which sold to £575 a head to regular mart supporter R Midgley, Stronger calves still on milk from DV Lee sold to £485 for a strong LIM X bull once again to the Midgley family. Native bulls topped at £405 selling to R A Suddaby and a smart little black and white rearing calf sold to £118 to young Mr Cockerill. 

In the big ring a nice Angus cow and calf outfit from Melrose farm sold to £1310, an in-calf stabiliser cow from R Coverdale sold to £1230, and an AAX feeding cow from Banklink Ltd sold to £805.

72 store cattle found a super trade, with Steers selling to £1410 for a super limousine from East huntow farm, heifers sold to £1490/ head for two super suckler bred Simmentals from J Foulston, with the Padfield family not far behind with their super Limousin heifers which sold between £1470 and £1370. Grazing cattle were as good to sell as ever with the last draw from Andrew Catton selling to tops of £1165 or 315ppkg! And bulls sold to £935/ head for a nice packet of black and whites.
