A very good number of cattle forward today and the trade was as hot as the weather!!

A nice run of fresh Limousin x calves from A Burgess kicked the day off selling bull calves to £420 and heifers to £350, super calves as always and more for next week! Bull stirks sold to £665 for a suckler bred Angus from H W Houseman and smaller heifer stirks from R G Findlay of Westerdale sold to £455/ head.

In the big ring, 3 strong Simmental cows with Charolais X calves at foot sold to £1600 twice and to £1430 for one with a younger calf at foot.

Store cattle were as strong a trade as ever and smaller grazing cattle looked the best sold on the day, with a consignment of Limousin x steers and heifers from H&B Beevers selling to £940/ head to average £876 or 331ppkg! Native grazing sorts from G R & S Atkinson sold to £735 and to £710 3 times, and a nice run of BRB X heifers from F Atkinson sold to £790/ head. Other Smaller BRB X dairy steers sold to £945 for a shapely sort from J P Dobby

Another Westerdale vendor T booth topped the steers with two heavy BRB X steers selling to £1660 a head, part of their tremendous run of heavy short keep cattle, most other strong cattle in the consignment regularly around the £1600 mark! Jim Hornby of Seaton once again topped the heifers this week with another super Limousin which sold to £1650, and Keith Dunn sold native heifers to £1365. Only a couple of bulls in today but all sold well with local vendors J F Lambert topping the trade with a home bred Charolais at £1230. Even with good numbers and cattle for every job, many more could have been sold with some buyers returning home empty!
