FORWARD

York Auction Centre had 314 head of stock through the market including 38 store cattle and 23 calves and 253 sheep.

 

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £680 for a Holstein Friesian Bull Calf from A & A Wake.

Heifers sold to £1080 for a British Blue from R Midgley.

Steers sold to £1365 for a British Blue from E Lazenby.

Bulls sold to £1480 for a Limousin X from Edgar Bros.

 

Just a small show of cattle today but trade looked as hot as ever! Fresh calves sold to £432 for a superb lim x bull from H L & T E Smith, heifers sold to £350, and A British Friesian bull sold to £315! Possibly one of the dearest fresh black and whites to be sold here! Slightly smaller lim x bulls sold to £400 twice from A Burgess, Hereford bull stirks from G W& M Singleton sold to £512/ head, and A & A Wake topped the stirks at £680 for a shorthorn x and a Montbéliard x sold to the same price. 

 

In the store ring, James Edgar topped the day over all selling a pair of super home bred Limousin bulls to £1480, with nothing in the consignment under £1300 all going to the same local buyer Andrew Johnson. Other feeding bulls from J Sykes sold to £1160/ head for her suckler bred Herefords, and J R Richardson sold two nice packets of bulls to £880/ head for BRBx and £775/ head for his Herefords. Ted Lazenby topped the steers selling a trio of BRBx steers to £1365/ head and R Midgley topped the heifers with a pair of BRBx which sold to £1080/ head, Colin Crossley wasn’t far behind with his Simmental x heifer which sold to £1060. Smaller cattle were as good to sell as ever with I Mitchell selling lim x heifers to £1030 or 314ppkg, and plenty other similar cattle sold from £880-£980. 

 

The first store and breeding sheep sale of the season saw 253 head penned, with something for every pocket! Billy Beevers topped the breeding sheep at £250 for his super beltex shearling, and the store lambs were topped by R A Suddaby at £129/ head, Thank you to the Suddaby family for choosing us to disperse the lambs, 111 lambs averaged just short of £110 a head, all well-bred lambs and well presented, they were a pleasure to have here at York. Short keep lambs regularly sold from £116/ head to £129/ head from Chris Craven & R A Suddaby, beltex x lambs from Vale engineering sold to £114/ head and £113/ head, and molly Cavell sold long term lambs to £64/ head. A few cheap and cheerful sorts just pulled the average back to £92.48 across the board but 75% of lambs sold from £108 or better. Thank you to all who supported the sale! Lambs from Garrowby farms and H & B Beevers already entered for a fortnights time!
