FORWARD

York Auction Centre had 162 head of stock through the market including 76 store cattle and 29 calves and 55 store sheep.

 

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £870 for a British Blue Bull Calf from N Harvey.

Breeding cattle sold to £1390 for a British Shorthorn Cow with a Charolais X heifer calf at foot from J F Lambert.

Heifers sold to £1345 for a British Blue from A E Dunn & Son.

Steers sold to £1780 for a Simmental X from J B Hornby.

Bulls sold to £1475 for a Limousin X from W B & A Kilby & Son.

 

A good day trading once again! A good number of fresh calves & stirks started the day, with N Harvey topping the day with his super BRBx bull stirk selling to £870, other bull stirks sold regularly over £700 from numerous vendors, and heifer stirks sold to £690 from G R & S Atkinson for a Hereford x. A superb little packet of LIM X fresh calves from A Burgess sold to £465 for a cracking red bull to local mart supporter Ed Hardcastle, who also bought the burgess’s other bull calf at £445, looking forward to seeing them back through the fat ring! And fresh Heifer calves from the same home sold to £385.

 

A good number of store cattle penned with something to suit every pocket! A nice cow & calf outfit from JF Lambert sold to £1390, And Jim Hornby topped the day overall, cashing his birthday present in (an outstanding AAX steer) at £1780, other strong cattle from the same home sold from £1600 to £1725! H.W Colley topped the heifers at £1345/ head for a pair of strong LIM X heifers and Keith Dunn shared the top heifer price at £1345 again for a nice BRB X. Smaller wintering cattle regularly sold from £970-£1025, and bulls sold to £1475 from W B & A Kilby & son. Other smaller bulls sold to £1155 from the same home, and £670 for some nice little Herefords from BM Agricultural.

 

Store lambs looked well sold once again, and although some vendors were missing, trade remained good! Plenty buyers here at York every fortnight requiring large numbers, some going home with empty trailers! Richard Sanderson topped the day with his super, well fed texel x selling to £119/ head with his other pens at £116/ head and £113/ head. Longer term lambs sold to £97/ head from C Leedham for a pen of Suffolk x and from £80-£93/ head for a nice run of texel x mules from common lane farm, all lambs forward to average £97.78/ head. Next sale in a fortnight!
