York Auction Centre had 165 head of stock throughout the market including 67 store cattle and 32 calves and 66 sheep.

 

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £740 for a Limousin X Heifer Calf from T E Coates.

Heifers sold to £1295 for a Charolais X from S Barnes.

Steers sold to £1390 for a British Shorthorn from R P Wilson.

Bulls sold to £835 for a Limousin X from E R Lazenby.

A nice show of stock across all sections today! A super run of fresh calves from G & J Dean of south Holme started the day and ring full of farmer buyers and regular dealers ensured an electric trade! Fresh calves from the Dean family topped at £380 for a BRBx bull, brbx heifers sold to £320, a smart run of Hereford bulls sold to £375 and black and whites equally as good to sell topped at £240! Super rearing calves and more entered for the coming weeks! A good run of stirks came next with Pollyanna Boyes topping the bull trade at £725/ head for a nice pair of feb born Hereford x bulls, Trevor Coates topped the heifers at £740/ head for his home bred Limousins, and a super run of Hereford x feeding bulls from G W Singleton sold regularly over £500, topping at £560/ head! In the big ring, not a whole lot of power was penned but stronger cattle sold to £1390/ head for a pen of 6 super BSH steers from R P Wilson, heifers sold to £1295/head for a pair of Charolais x, part of a super consignment from Steve Barnes, and C T Bramley wasn’t far behind at £1230 for a shapely suckler bred heifer selling to local mart supporter Rob Mccaie. Plenty good runs of cattle sold regularly from 1100-1200, and Steve Barnes sold a very well-matched packet of AAX heifers at £1215/ head. Smaller cattle sold to £960 for beef shorthorns from R P Wilson, and bulls sold to £835/ head for a pair of Lim x from Eric Lazenby. 

 

66 store lambs sold well even with the downward trend, with something for every pocket penned! Trade topped at £108/ head for some smart little beltex x from H & B Beevers, with nothing in their consignment under £94/ head! New vendor J D Whitaker sold texel x lambs to £92/ head, and the lambs across the board today averaged a decent £84/ head, more already entered in a fortnight!
