York Auction Centre had 198 head of stock through the market including 100 store cattle, 29 calves and 69 sheep.

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £810 for a Hereford Heifer Calf from M I C Slater.

Heifers sold to £1875 for a British Blue from L A Clappison.

Steers sold to £2100 for a British Blue from R A & H E Simpson.

Bulls sold to £1850 for a Charolais X from J F Lambert.

Trade keeps lifting and so do the numbers, with vendors new and old absolutely delighted with trade, with store cattle topping at £2100, 4 more lots over £2000 and 5 more lots over £1800!

In the calf ring, a nice show of calves and stirks sold to tops of £810/ head for a pen of 4 nice 10 month old Hereford heifers from M I C Slater. A run of very nicely presented calves fit for weaning from Messers Skelton sold to tops of £490 for a super BRBx heifer and AAX bulls from the same home sold to £460/ head. Fresh calves flew away to £450 for a super Lim x bull from H L & T E Smith, natives sold to £300 from the same home, and it has to be said- that fresh black and white bulls looked the trade of the day with a super British Friesian from A Burgess selling to £245, and a nicely presented Holstein from B A L Ackroyd sold to £170.

In the big ring, 100 head forward averaged a superb £1340 across the board with new vendors R A & H E Simpson topping the day at £2100 for a strong BRBx steer, Brian Basham wasn’t far behind with a pair of AAX steers which sold to £2070/ head and Jim Hornby sold a topping Lim x steer at £2010. Heifers topped at £1875 for a fit BRBx from L A Clappison and well fed AAX from the same home sold to £1860. A tremendous run of suckler bred heifers from new vendors J & A Trenholme sold to £1775 for 30 month Lim x heifer and a pair of super BRBx x Lim heifers sold to £1765/ head! Consignments of smaller cattle looked tremendously well sold especially a packet of AAX steers from E W & E Swires which sold to £1525/ head other lighter cattle sold to £1490 for an AAX steer from R A & H E Simpson, £1370 for a Lim x steer from S Barnes, and £1285/ head for a pair of Blonde x heifers from I & P Kilner.

Bulls looked as strong a trade as ever with local vendors J F Lambert topping the trade at £1850/ head for his super Charolais with others in the consignment selling to £1700, and £1686. A strong BRBx bull from C T Bramley sold to £1770 with others to £1410, and Bruce Quarton’s quality consignment topped at £1495!

In the sheep ring, feeding ewes looked a red hot trade once again with mules from J stringer selling to £110/ head and £109/ head. No short keep lambs in today but a good run of wintering types was topped by Millie Cooke at £120/ head for a pen of tight skinned Texel x, Charollais x lambs from J Stringer sold to £119, smaller and leaner sorts regularly from £94-£111, all store lambs today £104/ head.
