York Auction Centre had 133 head of stock through the market including 100 store cattle & 33 calves.
TOP PRICES
Calves sold to £935 for a British Blue Bull Calf from Martin Greenbank.
Heifers sold to £1600 for a British Blue from Martin Greenbank.
Steers sold to £2410 for a Limousin X from Beckfield Farm.
Bulls sold to £1595 for a Charolais X from J F Lambert.
Another week, another mart record with the store trade topping at £2410!
A good show of calves and stirks started the day with fresh calves especially looking the trade of the day! Regular vendors A Burgess of Filey topped both the fresh heifer and bull calves and £355 and £460 respectively, with a good run of little rearing sorts from G & J Dean & son not far behind topping at £420 for a smart little BRBx bull, a black and white bull sold to £355, and native bulls sold to £250! Black and white bull calves certainly went up another gear today with more selling to £355, and £300 from P J Waring and son, and BRBx heifers from the same home sold to £300, all super calves and very well presented! The stirks were topped by a pair of well-reared 6-8 month old bulls presented by Better Cattle Co selling to £935/ head and 4 more from the same good home sold upwards of £910/ head! Heifer stirks sold to £625 for a BRBx from Abigail Coverdale and a BRBx steer from the same home sold to £790! All calves and stirks selling away to local buyers and all vendors returned home delighted!
In the big ring, trade once again hit new heights with a superb Limx steer from G Hughes selling to £2410! More big, short keep cattle definitely required!
Other big sorts sold to £1680 for a pair of nice AAX steers from J S Hanson, and others below the 600kg mark sold to £1600 for a nice BRBx heifer from Better Cattle Co. W B & A Kilby & son presented a super run of their usual quality goods and even though maybe smaller than normal, all sold away well topping at £1560, or 367ppkg!
Smaller clean cattle looked every bit as dear, with C Ellwood topping the class at £1455/ head for a pair of nice Limx steers, nearly 400ppkg! And the Houseman family topped at £1165 for a nice lim x AA yearling, part of a super run of 17 from them.
A mixed show of bulls sold very well with J F Lambert taking the top spot once again with their usual well bred sorts selling to £1595, with nothing in the consignment under £1500, and a nice run of Hereford x bulls from H W Colley sold to £1355.
