A better number of 81 store cattle forward today and whilst strong cattle remain firmly in demand, smaller cattle undoubtedly looked the trade of the day!

In the calf ring, no fresh calves forward this week although we have a good entry of Lim x bulls from A Burgess for next week! A mixed show of stirks topped at £1010/ head for a pair of BSH bulls from T Bell, with two more from the same home reaching £1000/ head, and two more bulls from J E Shepherd also sold to £1000/ head! Steers sold to £825 for a well grown BRBx from F Atkinson, and a super packet of BRBx heifers from the same home sold to £740/ head! Strong buyer interest for fresh calves and forward stirks and many more needed every week!

In the big ring, a run of cow & calf outfits from Michael Wills sold to £1900 for a 7 year old Sim x cow with a tidy little bull calf at foot. And in calf cows from J Black sold to £1450. The store cattle were topped over all by Ted Hughes with a heavy Lim x bull selling to £2,435. Other smaller bulls sold remarkably well with D Swinglehurst selling a 9 month old Charolais X at £1500, and an 8 month old Limousin sold the same price. Smaller bulls sold from £930-£985 and while this doesn’t sound much, the top ppkg bull in the run worked out at 454ppkg!!

Heifers topped at £2,300 for a well fed Lim x from J B Hornby, Richard Waring sold a heavy sim x heifer to £2,255 and F Sellars wasn’t far behind at £2000 for a Lim x. Steers sold to £1780 for a Lim x from A W Turner, and whilst no more real strong steers were forward, a run of named sire AAX from G Stephenson looked a tremendous trade at £1425/ head! Many more cattle can be sold every week from both the clean zone and bluetongue restricted zone with buyers here each sale for both!
