York Auction Centre had 107 head of stock through the market including 5 breeding cattle, 67 store cattle and 35 calves.
TOP PRICES
Calves sold to £585 for a Hereford Heifer calf from Q A Brook.
Breeding cattle sold to £1650 for an Aberdeen Angus Cow with a British Blue Bull calf at foot from B W & F K RAB.
Heifers sold to £1890 for a British Blue from A E Dunn & Son.
Steers sold to £1815 for a Limousin X from J B Catton & Son.
Bulls sold to £2820 for a Limousin X from Penwood Farm LLP.
Although a quieter day on stores, a busy calf ring met a very fast trade and all vendors returned home happy! Fresh calves once again looked trade of the day with Lim x bulls from A Burgess topping at £555 and two more from the same home sold from £505-£540! Fresh heifer calves from J E & M P Else sold to £470 for a nice little Sim x and a Lim x from H L, T E & O P Smith wasn’t far behind at £460. Stirks sold to £580 and £585/ head for Herefords from Quentin Brook and a run of freshly weaned calves from Askham Bryan College sold to £435.
In the big ring, a handful of breeding cattle sold to £1650 for a 2 year old cow & calf outfit from B W & F K Rab and a Saler cow from C R Simpson sold to £1440. A pair of heavy bulls from Penwood Farm topped the trade at £2820/ head, and other larger cattle topped at £1890 for a pair of nice BRBx heifers from A E Dunn, and a nice Lim x steer from A Catton sold to £1815 or 413ppkg! Smaller cattle looked every bit as dear, and a superb consignment of Charolais heifers from J F Lambert sold to £1780/ head and £1600/ head.
