York Auction Centre had 140 head of stock through the market including 4 breeding cattle, 129 store cattle and 7 calves.
TOP PRICES
Calves sold to £790 for a British Blue Bull calf from Joshua Wainwright.
Breeding cattle sold to £2600 for a Limousin X Cow with an Aberdeen Angus bull calf at foot from C R Simpson.
Heifers sold to £2520 for a Limousin X from C T Bramley & Son.
Steers sold to £2410 for a Hereford from M Kendra & Sons.
Bulls sold to £2440 for a Limousin X from R Barnard.
Although not many calves and stirks forward today, trade still looked as buoyant as ever! A 6 week old BRBx bull from J Wainwright sold to £790 and a run of dairy steers from Andrew Lumb topped at £685 for an 11 month old Holstein x and a nice packet of 10 month old Ayrshire steers from the same home sold to £670/ head. More fresh calves from A Burgess entered for next week!
In the big ring, 2 cow & calf outfits from Roger Simpson topped at £2600 for a 5 year old cow with bull calf at foot, and 129 store cattle topped at £2520 for a heavy lim x heifer from C T Bramley, other heavy heifers from H W Colley & son sold to £2390/ head for a pair of nice BRBx, all heifers today to average £1393/ head. Steers topped at £2410 for a super Hereford x from M Kendra & sons and other strong sorts from S & H Cheetham sold to 2300 for their dairy x blues, all steers to average £1620 across the board.
Turning out cattle looked a very fast trade with the bigger end of the category topping at £1880 for a pair of Lincoln red x BRB steers from battlefield stud and smaller sorts sold to £1270/ head for a pen of nice AAX heifers from F Atkinson & sons, part of a super run from them, and another big run of BRBx and Hereford x grazers from M Waite & Son looked tremendously well sold topping at £1135/ head for a pen of 4 BRBx and £1205/ head for Herefords, or nearly 400ppkg!
A superb show of bulls were very well sought after, topping at £2440 for a pair of pure Lims from R Barnard, others from the same home sold to £2340, and £2380. E H Daniel weren’t far behind at £2230 and a trio of J F Lamberts usual good quality Charolais sold to £1795/ head.
**Bluetongue movement testing exemptions have been extended from 23 April to 15 May, meaning you can still move animals out of the bluetongue restricted zone without testing if they are older than 60 days and are not pregnant and are not a male intended for breeding. Other animals still require pre-movement testing. You must still obtain a license from APHA to allow animals to move out of the Zone. Please consider this so buyers from the clean zone are able to purchase your stock! **
