FORWARD

York Auction Centre had 129 head of stock through the market including 45 store cattle, 9 calves and 75 sheep.

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £540 for a British Blue Bull from R & E B Drake.

Heifers sold to £1350 for a Aberdeen Angus from C R Simpson.

Steers sold to £1350 for a Aberdeen Angus from C & S Crossley.

Bulls sold to £980 for a Limousin X from Danny Ferguson.

Calves

The first sale of the year can only be described as starting on a high, with trade of the day topping at £440 for a superb 4-week-old Limousin x heifer from A Burgess, with another younger one from the same home selling to £340. Next up a trio of reared black and white bulls from Risborough farming sold well away to £335 a head and older stirks topped at £540 for a tidy blue bull from R & E B Drake.

Store lambs

75 store lambs penned today with something for every budget from vendors old and new! Well fleshed and shaped lambs looked as good a trade as ever but just few smaller, longer term sorts a bit harder to place. A super run of beltex x lambs from H & B Beevers flew away to £118/ head, with other none in their consignment under £103/ head. Longer term wintering lambs sold to £74/ head from common lane farm for texel/ mules and Lleyns from D Ferguson to £71. Small types sold to £42 for Lleyn and £26 for swaledale weathers.
