FORWARD

York Auction Centre had 73 head of stock through the market including 71 store cattle and 2 calves.

TOP PRICES

Calves sold to £750 for a Hereford Steer Calf from J Sykes.

Bulls sold to £1150 for a Hereford from W H Lockwood & Co.

Heifers sold to £1165 for a Limousin X from J O & R W Sturdy.

Steers sold to £1650 for a British Blue from S & K Asquith.

A reasonable number forward for our first store market under the bluetongue restrictions but the best bred and fed cattle were as good to sell as ever!  2 suckler bred Hereford stirks from Julie Sykes started the day with a steer selling to £750 and a slightly smaller bull which sold to £660. 

In the big ring, S & K Asquith topped the day with a heavy BRB x steer selling to £1650, with others from the same home selling to £1645 and £1580 twice. Rob Sturdy topped the heifers at £1165 for a 485kg Lim x heifer and a nice packet of blue x heifers from the same home sold to £1060/ head. Bulls sold to £1150 for a nice Hereford from W H Lockwood with others from the same home selling to £930, other larger bulls sold to £905/ head for a pair of Simmentals from M Kent and £645 for a nice black and white from C Fryer. A superb run of 9-10 month old suckler bred cattle from Granville Ellis flew away to £1250 or 305ppkg for a nice Lim x steer and a run of super AAX steers and heifers sold to £1135/ head from the same home! Smaller cattle from C Sykes sold to tops of £670 for a nice Hereford and steers from the same large consignment sold to £635, all smaller cattle regularly around the 250ppkg mark across bulls, steers and heifers!
