FATSTOCK CHRISTMAS SHOW – MONDAY 2nd DECEMBER - RED MARKET
York Auction Centre had 380 head of stock forward including 190 Cattle, 88 Sheep and 102 Pigs at their weekly sale of Prime stock.
At the Fatstock show which is now split over two days with the clean cattle judged on Sunday and the bulls judged Yesterday. The Judge was Harry Bromwich from Haxby who did an excellent job over the two days judging a total of 61 cattle.
The event focused on families and young farmers with Santa Claus and the children’s play area very popular. For the budding young farmers there was great opportunity to meet up and learn more from the Ebor Young Farmers group and the YAS Future Farmers. It was great to see all our livestock farmer clients along with so many other customers and guests. Everyone enjoyed the social occasion and engagement with people both inside and outside of the farming industry.
The main feature of the event was the annual Christmas Show of cattle and sheep which certainly did not disappoint, with some tremendous quality stock on show. After the livestock show the Dunnington Community Choir sang carols with Santa Claus round the Christmas tree followed by a charity auction and concluded with the annual RABI carol service, which saw a packed marquee with around 150 in the congregation enjoying carols accompanied by the Shepherd Group Youth Brass Band and the Dunnington Community Choir.
Harry Bromwich awarded the supreme champion in the clean to a super Limousin heifer bred and shown by J R Johnson & Son of Flat Top Farm Terrington – Jess and Paul – it weighed 560kg, was sold for a whopping £6.00 per kg grossing a mighty £3357.20 being purchased by the Judge Harry Bromwich. It is the first time for a long time that both the clean and the bull supreme champions have been home bred. The Ron Holgate Trophy for the best homebred beast was awarded to the Johnson family for their supreme heifer.
